Seguin Goes Dark: What to Expect During the 2024 Solar Eclipse

The upcoming solar eclipse on April 8th promises to be a captivating spectacle. Seguin, Texas, is poised to witness this celestial drama with a 99% covered sun.

While Seguin may not be on the path of totality we will experience the 99% coverage of the sun and several minutes of darkness. The event will begin at 12:15pm and last until approximately 3:00pm.

Best Viewing Spots

Seguin offers a variety of locations that will provide unobstructed views of the sky. We are recommending residents and tourists to utilize our parks and Coliseum parking lot for viewing. These outdoor facilities will offer the best viewing of this rare experience.

Join the Seguin Public Library for a fun eclipse event with themed games, chalk art, and a live stream of the eclipse in case of inclement weather. All attendees will receive a ticket for a drawing to win a telescope! Eclipse viewing glasses will be distributed on a first come first serve basis and they encourage attendees to share a pair so that as many people as possible have the opportunity to view the eclipse. Viewing begins at 12:15 pm.

We encourage everyone to prioritize their safety, staring directly at the sun, even during an eclipse, can cause permanent eye damage. Therefore it is extremely important to wear certified solar viewing glasses or use solar filters on your cameras. Taking these protective measures ensure that you can enjoy the eclipse without risking harm to your eyesight.
